How To Get Affordable Home Internet with Mediacom’s Low-Income Programs

Looking for a reliable internet connection at a price you can afford? Mediacom offers low-cost internet plans for low-income households through two programs: the Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP) and their own Connect2Compete initiative.

How to Qualify

There are two main ways to qualify for reduced-cost internet with Mediacom:

Apply For Mediacom’s Free Internet Program For Low Income

  • Income: Your household income must be at or below 200% of the federal poverty guidelines. You can find the current poverty guidelines on the (.gov) website at federal poverty guideline website: https://aspe.hhs.gov/topics/poverty-economic-mobility/poverty-guidelines/poverty-guidelines-api.
  • Participation in Government Assistance Programs: You can also qualify if you participate in certain government programs, such as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), Medicaid, or the Lifeline program.

Mediacom’s Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP)

The ACP is a federal program that helps low-income households afford internet service. Through the ACP, you can receive a discount of up to $30 per month on your internet bill, or up to $75 for qualifying tribal lands. Mediacom participates in the ACP, so you can potentially get free or significantly reduced internet service.

How to Apply for ACP

Mediacom Connect2Compete

This program by Mediacom offers discounted internet plans specifically for low-income households with at least one K-12 student enrolled in the National School Lunch Program. Here are the two plans available:

  • Connect2Compete Broadband: Provides internet speeds of 25 Mbps for $9.95 per month (including tax) with no contracts, deposits, equipment rental fees, or installation fees.
  • Connect2Compete Plus: Offers internet speeds of 100 Mbps for $30 per month (including tax) if you qualify for the ACP discount. This plan essentially makes your internet free after the ACP credit is applied.

How to Apply for Connect2Compete

  • Visit the Mediacom website and fill out the application form.
  • Call Mediacom at 1–855–904–2225 for more information or assistance.

Important Considerations

  • You cannot be a current Mediacom customer to qualify for Connect2Compete. You must wait at least three months after canceling service before reapplying.
  • To maintain your discounted rate with Connect2Compete, at least one child in your household must continue to qualify for the National School Lunch Program.
  • Explore other options if you don’t qualify for these programs. Many other internet service providers participate in the ACP, and there might be local or state-run programs offering low-cost internet access.

Conclusion

Mediacom’s low-income internet programs offer a lifeline to families struggling to afford internet access in today’s digital world. By participating in the ACP and offering their Connect2Compete initiative, Mediacom helps bridge the digital divide and ensures everyone has a chance to connect.
